Learning outcomes
This seminar offers a hands-on and interactive exploration of jazz improvisation. Instructors will collaboratively deliver content across the following core topics:
- improvisational theory and practice;
- ensemble playing and interaction;
- instrumental technique and musical phrasing;
- jazz harmony and its application;
- fFoundational jazz history;
the curriculum will encompass a broad spectrum of styles, including traditional jazz, contemporary approaches, and various world music grooves.
Course contents and description
Instructional delivery will incorporate the following components:
- students are encouraged to practice at home and follow up with the instructors;
- students are encouraged to submit recorded musical projects electronically (via email/file sharing such as WeTransfer, etc.) or perform these projects live in class for evaluation;
- both in-class performances during each session and a culminating final recital will serve as primary assessmentsof student learning outcomes and progress;
- upon seminar completion, instructors will facilitate a concert for Conservatory students.
